Pin-Type extruders for the tire industry
VMI-AZ Pin-Barrel extruders are primarily used with tire compounds that contain high natural rubber providing proven efficiency and flexibility.Pin Barrel extruders are specifically designed to generate additional shear flow in the extruder screw channel to give a homogeneous temperature build-up of both the rubber and plasticization. The pins ensure a very homogeneous temperature distribution in the extruded compound which can be easily optimized by increasing or decreasing the number of pins per plane.
The pins are distributed in the pin barrel section at a distance ranging from 5 to 8D by increasing the screw diameter accordingly and this unique design results in an increased compound residence time in the shear area. This procedure is particularly beneficial where natural rubber compounds are extruded within a required time to ensure a sufficient and homogeneous heat increase in the compound. Our unique pin design guarantees that each pin is actively conveying the rubber whilst the screw is turning, allowing a very smooth shear action and prevention of compound overheating.
The benefit of removing or adding pins without changing the screw is that the energy input can be optimized for each individual compound.
The unique design of the VMI-AZ Pin-Barrel extruder ensures the induction of a smooth shear field which results in a well homogenized rubber compound with a reduced risk of overheating.
